In 2004 ENGIE E&P started an innovative CO2 re-injection project on the K12-B production platform together with TNO on the Dutch part of the North Sea.

K12-B installation in the Dutch part of the North Sea

The CO2 which is released during the production process of natural gas is being re-injected into the sandstone layer it originated from.

This layer lies approximately 4,000 meters below the water surface. Up till now, over 100,000 tons of CO2 have been re-injected in the reservoir instead of being released into the atmosphere.
